SMEGB Bible Kalotsavam Perpetual Annual Trophy rules

 This is awarded annually to the winner and runner up.

The points are calculated for each regions as follows:

a). Individual items points:

1st prize – 5 points ; 2nd prize – 3points ; 3rd prize – 1point. 

b). Group items points:

2persons: 1st prize – 7 points; 2nd prize – 5 points ; 3rd prize – 3 points. 

4+ persons: 1st prize – 10points ; 2nd  prize – 7 points;  3rd prize -5 points.

  1. The region that wins the trophy for 3 consecutive years retains the cup and a new cup will be reinstated.
  2. The winner and runner up region will be able to retain the trophy and must return it the day before the next annual Kalotsavam.
  3. It is the responsibility of the winning recipient (Regional coordinator) for its safekeeping during the coming year and will be liable for any loss or damage costs.
  4. In an unfortunate turn of events when no further Bible Kalotsavam is conducted the last winner should return the cup back to the Bible Apostolate – SMEGB

Perpetual Trophy rules

Please find the Bible Kalotsavam rules and guidelines prepared by the Commission for Bible Apostolate. This contains the information about the Kalotsavam such as item names, age groups, conditions, judging criteria and the number of entries expected from each region. It is expected that the regional level competitions to be completed by 14th October 2017 so that registrations for the Eparchial level can be made by 22nd October 2017. English – THE NEW REVISED STANDARD VERSION – CATHOLIC EDITION

Number of participants from each zone:

Solo items: Best of 3 from your zonal competitions.
Group items: 1 entry only from your zonal competitions.

Bible Quiz is considered as a solo item

NOTE: No more than 3 individual, 2 group items in their age group & 1 group item from ‘All’ category per participant.

‘All’ category – open to all age groups i.e can be a mixture all ages

Participation

  • Please register for the Kalotsavam by completing the registration form online and e-mailing it to registration@smegbbiblekalotsavam.com
  • Closing date for Registration: 22/10/2017
  • All entries must be registered by 22nd Oct 2017. Entries submitted after this date will not be accepted due to organising and planning difficulties. Therefore please ensure your zonal competitions are conducted by 14th Oct 2017
  • We will respond to confirm your entry via email after 22/10/17
  • Programme schedule will be published by 29th Oct 2017. If there is a clash between the timings of your selected items we will try our best to accommodate this. However, where we cannot do this we will get back to you.
  • Please check if the timings of your item clashes with another item you are interested in participating. This may mean you cannot participate in 2 items at the same time and you will be required to make a choice.
  • However, it may be possible to participate in both if you can finish one item on time and can be present for the other. E.g. you may finish painting which is for 30 mins (11-12 noon) and attend solo song competition which is 5 mins per song (11- 12 noon). As long as you have registered early, you can attend both before the end of that session. No special requests will be considered on the day to prevent overrun and delays.
  • If there is less than three entries for an item/ category, that item is likely to be withdrawn & the registrants will be notified.

Registration fees

Solo (up to 3 items)- £10
Group of up to 2 members- £10 per group item
Group of 4 and above members- £20 per group item

The age considered is based up on the child’s age as on 31/08/2017, like the UK school system. It has no bearing to the date of the competition.

Proof of age may be requested in case of any queries.

COMPLAINTS

Participants or their parents/guardians are not allowed to contact any jury member regarding any judgement issues. Any queries regarding the judgement during the days of the event should be placed to the Appeal Committee. Appeal committee will re-check the tabulation of marks and Terms & Conditions and technical matters regarding that particular event. Re-performing or re-judgement will not be allowed. The decision reached by the Appeal Committee will be final. Complaints / Appeals are to be submitted through Zonal Kalotsavam co-ordinator within one hour after the result is announced. The Fees to file a complaint / Appeal is £25/- which will be refunded if the appeal wins; otherwise will be added to SMEGB Bible Kalotsavam Organising Fund.

 

Bible Reading English & Bible Reading Malayalam

  • Duration: 2 mins. Bell on time.
  • Up to 30seconds over the time limit, negative marks will be given (eg.-2)
  • If it goes over 30 seconds over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the participant. Participant may continue and finish the item.

 

Participants will be asked to read one from among a list of passages for the age group as below. All reading should be directly from the Bible.

Painting

 Duration: 30 mins.     Ages:  up to 7 yrs;

Participants will be asked to paint based on a Biblical theme. A sketch will be provided to the children. All other materials/equipment (crayons, colour pencil, sketch pen etc.) should be brought along by the participants.

Duration: 30 mins.     Ages:  8-10 yrs; 11-13 yrs; 14-17 yrs

Only water colour is allowed (Water colour pencil is not allowed). Only paper will be provided.

Pencil Sketching

Duration: 30 minutes.  Ages:  up to 7 yrs; 8-10 yrs; 11-13 yrs; 14-17 yrs

Participants will be asked to do a sketch based on a Biblical theme and in the case of up to 7 years a model/object may be used. Only paper will be provided. All other required materials/equipment (pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners etc.) should be brought along by all participants.

Essay Writing

Duration: 30 minutes. Topic will be given at start time.

Age 8-10 yrs:   Essays should be of a maximum of 300 words.

Age 11-13 yrs: Essays should be of a maximum of 500 words

Age 14-17 yrs: Essays should be of a maximum of 650 words.

Age 18-24 yrs: Essays should be of a maximum of 800 words.

  • If it goes over 15 seconds over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the participant. Participant may continue and finish the item

Only individual participants are allowed. The costume should be based on a Bible story or a Christian theme. Participants are allowed to express / explain their character by verbal or visual means but no external involvement is allowed. Props are allowed but background sound & light effects are not permitted. Same rules apply for all age groups.

  • If it goes over 1 minute over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the team. Participants may continue and finish the item.

Group Size: Minimum of 4 participants. Not to exceed 8 singers (only 4 microphones will be provided)

  • Teams with less than the minimum number of participants on stage will be disqualified.
  • Teams with more than the maximum number of participants on stage will be disqualified

Only devotional songs will be allowed. Karaoke or live instruments will not be allowed. Songs sung in Malayalam may get additional points.

 Duration: 5 minutes.     Ages: up to 7 yrs; 8-10 yrs; 11-13 yrs; 14-17 yrs

  • Up to 30seconds over the time limit, negative marks will be given (eg.-2)
  • If it goes over 30 seconds over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the participant. Participant may continue and finish the item

All dance music should be based on Bible/Christian theme. Songs should be provided at least one week in advance to the organising committee. If a song is deemed inappropriate by the committee/judges the participant may be disqualified. No extra points will be given for classical dances.

Group Dance

 Duration: 5 minutes.      Ages: up to 7 yrs; 8-10 yrs; 11-13 yrs; 14-17 yrs

  • Up to 1 minute over the time limit, negative marks will be given (eg.-4)
  • If it goes over 1 minute over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the team. Participants may continue and finish the item.

Group size:      Minimum 4; Not to exceed 8 participants

  • Teams with less than the minimum number of participants on stage will be disqualified.
  • Teams with more than the maximum number of participants on stage will be disqualified

All dance music should be based on Bible/Christian theme. Songs should be provided at least one week in advance to the organizing committee. If a song is deemed inappropriate by the committee/judges the participant may be disqualified. No extra points will be given for classical dances.

Margam Kali

Duration: 7 minutes.     All age groups can participate

  • Up to 1 minute over the time limit, negative marks will be given (eg.-4)
  • If it goes over 1 minute over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the team. Participants may continue and finish the item.

Group size: Not to exceed 8 participants and up to 3 singers. Maximum 8 participants including singers

  • Teams with more than the maximum number of participants on stage will be disqualified

Nilavilakku for the event will be provided if needed. The event will be judged on overall performance as well as adherence to the aattaprakaram. Songs should be provided to the organising committee at least a week in advance. There is no additional mark for live singing.

Bible Tableau

 Duration: maximum stage set-up time of 5 minutes; 1 minute on stage after curtain raising.

  • Up to 20seconds over the time limit, negative marks will be given (eg.-2)
  • If it goes over 40 seconds over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the participant. Participant may continue and finish the item

Open to all age groups. Groups should consist of no more than 8 participants.

  • Teams with more than the maximum number of participants on stage will be disqualified

The tableau should be based on a Biblical event or a Christian theme. You may play a soundtrack (to be made available in advance to the organising committee).

Instrumental (Keyboard)

 Duration:  3 minutes   Ages:  8-10 yrs; 11-13 yrs; 14-17 yrs

  • Up to 30 seconds over the time limit, negative marks will be given (eg.-2)
  • If it goes more than 30 seconds over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the participant. Participant may continue and finish the item.

Only devotional songs will be allowed. Please bring your own equipments. Only manual play allowed. No additional pads allowed. Pre-fed rhythm is not permitted. Any kind of recorded play is not allowed (MIDI File, Wave, MP3, Floppy drive, Pen drive etc). Microphone connections will be provided if required.

  • If it goes over 30 seconds over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the participant. Participant may continue and finish the item

Only devotional songs will be allowed. Please bring your own equipments. Other instrumental effects are not permitted. Microphone connections will be provided if required.

Duration:  10 minutes (timing includes title and credits). All age groups can participate

 Topic: How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of the messenger who brings good news, who announces salvation, who says to Zion, “Your God reigns” (Is 52:7).

This will be a Bible/ Christian based short film, which should be a production of a Holy Qurbana centre with actors from the centre. External technical support such as editing can be sort. You may use suitable materials and clips from other videos of your choice as along as a written information is provided along with your material. You may include contemporary church events. The video should be reviewed and vetted by your Priest in-charge and forwarded as CD/ flash drive/ shared files (eg Google drive, Weshare, Dropbox).

Skit:

Duration: 10 minutes. All age groups can participate

Duration: maximum stage set-up time of 5 minutes; maximum stage clearance time of 3 minutes, 10 minutes on stage after curtain raising.

  • If it goes over 1 minute over the time limit, bell to inform the disqualification of the team. Participants may continue and finish the item

Group Size: Minimum of 4 participants. Not to exceed 8 participants.

The skit should be based on a Biblical event or a Christian theme.

Participants can either deliver the dialogue live on stage or pre-recorded dialogues can be played. 3 hanging Microphones will be provided on the stage to those who are rendering the dialogues live on the stage.

Pre-recorded skits downloaded from the internet or any other media is also acceptable.

Basic lighting effects will be provided on the stage.  Participants can use their own lighting effects if required. Lights should be set up during the stage set up time.

Points are awarded based on Acting, Dialogue Delivery, Effective use of Props and Character, Message of the Act and overall presentation.
